Terms of Use
These terms apply to the use of the website inthedarkroom.org and to photography assignments carried out by In The Darkroom. By sending an enquiry through the form on the website you accept the terms as they stand here.

1. About the website
The website inthedarkroom.org is run by the photo studio In The Darkroom, with its studio at Thorvald Meyers gate 44, 0555 Oslo. The site presents the studio's services and work, and lets you send a non-binding enquiry about a photography assignment.
2. Use of the website
The content of the site is intended as information about the studio's services. You may read the pages, share links to them and print them for your own use. You may not:
- copy, download or republish pictures and text from the site without written permission;
- use the content to train models, build databases or harvest material automatically;
- attempt to circumvent technical restrictions, test the security or place an unreasonable load on the site;
- submit content through the forms that is unlawful, misleading or offensive to others.
3. Enquiries and booking
An enquiry sent through the form is not a binding booking. We reply in writing by email, normally within 24 hours on weekdays, with a proposal for the session, the timing and the scope. The agreement is considered concluded only once both parties have confirmed the content in writing by email.
You are responsible for the details you give being correct, and for having the right to book a session on behalf of any other people or businesses you name.
4. Carrying out the assignment
- Scope, place, duration and delivery deadline are agreed in writing before the session.
- Selection, colour grading and retouching are carried out by the studio according to our professional judgement, within the look described in the plan you have approved.
- Unprocessed files and raw files are not part of the delivery unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- For sessions on location you are responsible for us having lawful access to the place and any necessary permits.
- If an agreed photographer falls ill, one of the other photographers on the team steps in. You get to see their portfolio in advance and may cancel if the look does not suit you.
5. Changes and cancellation
Changes of date or scope are agreed in writing by email as early as possible. We always try to find a new time rather than cancel.
- In circumstances beyond the parties' control — illness, severe weather, closed venues and the like — the session is moved to the nearest available date that suits both parties.
- Cancellation is made in writing. Any consequences of a late cancellation follow from the written agreement for the individual assignment.
- The studio may cancel an assignment if conditions on site make it impossible to work properly. In that case a new date is offered.
6. Copyright and usage rights
Copyright in the pictures belongs to the photographer under Norwegian copyright law. As a client you receive a lasting, non-exclusive right to use the delivered pictures from your own assignment. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the usage right covers:
- your own websites, social media, presentations and printed matter;
- press coverage of you or your business;
- private use, printing and sharing within the family.
The usage right does not cover:
- resale or transfer of the pictures to a third party;
- editing that substantially changes the expression of the picture, for example heavy retouching, filters or generative editing;
- use that may be offensive to the people portrayed.
The photographer shall be credited wherever practically possible, in line with section 5 of the Norwegian Copyright Act.
7. Privacy and consent
The processing of personal data is described in the privacy policy. The studio never publishes pictures of clients in its own portfolio or on social media without written consent, and such consent can be withdrawn at any time.
At sessions where other people are present — weddings and events, for example — the client is responsible for informing guests that photographs are being taken, and for passing on to the photographer any wishes not to be photographed before the session.
8. Liability and limitations
The studio works with redundant storage and two camera bodies on every assignment. Should material nevertheless be lost because of a technical failure, a new session is offered as soon as it can be arranged. In all cases liability is limited to delivering the service again, and does not cover indirect loss such as damage to reputation, lost opportunities or consequential loss for third parties.
The content of the website is provided “as is”. We aim to keep the information correct at all times, but give no guarantee that the site is free of errors or always available.
9. Complaints
If you are not happy with the delivery, tell us in writing at [email protected] within 14 days of the gallery being delivered. Describe what does not match what was agreed, and we will go through the selection again and correct what can be corrected. Consumer purchases are otherwise governed by the Norwegian Consumer Purchases Act and the Right of Withdrawal Act.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by Norwegian law. If a disagreement arises, the parties first try to reach an amicable solution. If that fails, the matter may be brought before the Norwegian Consumer Authority or before Oslo District Court as the agreed venue.
We may change these terms. Changes apply from the moment they are published here and do not affect assignments that have already been agreed in writing.
