In The Darkroom is a small photo studio in Grünerløkka shooting portraits,
weddings, family, brand and event work. We work with natural light, calm
direction and hands-on finishing — digitally and on film in our own darkroom.
The same approach carries private sittings and brand campaigns for clients
such as SpinBoss, Kazeeno and Grizzlys. The result is pictures that still hold
up twenty years from now.

About us
A small studio with a long memory.
In The Darkroom was started in 2013 by three photographers who were tired of
shoots where everything went fast and nothing stayed. We took the name from the
room where pictures actually come into being: the darkroom. Today we are the
same small team — we take on fewer jobs than we could, and spend the time on
the ones we take.
What sets us apart from a booking agency is simple: you meet the photographer
who answers your email, and you get the pictures from the same hands that shot
them. That goes for a single headshot as much as for a full campaign — the
image libraries we built for SpinBoss, Kazeeno, SpinWinera, Grizzlys and
Slotrave came out of the same three-person studio.

The same team, every time
Three permanent photographers and one retoucher. You know who is coming, you
see the portfolio in advance and you meet no strangers on the day itself.

Direction for people who dislike cameras
Most people find being photographed uncomfortable. We spend the first few
minutes removing that — simple instructions, no posing on command.

Our own darkroom
We develop and print black and white ourselves. That lets us offer real
analogue prints alongside digital delivery — and teach you how, if you like.

Predictable delivery
Preview within 48 hours, finished gallery within five working days for
portraits and within three weeks for weddings. The dates are written into the
agreement.

Rights without small print
You get written usage rights to the pictures from your own session. We never
publish pictures of you in our portfolio or on social media unless you have
said yes.

A 120 m² studio with a daylight wall, flash park and two background systems —

How we work
Four steps from enquiry to finished gallery.
Step 01
Conversation
You send the form, we reply by email within 24 hours with questions about what
the pictures are for. A short video call if you would like one.
Step 02
Plan and moodboard
You get a written plan: place, time, lighting, shot list and a moodboard
showing the look we are aiming for. Nothing starts before you have approved it.
Step 03
The session
We rig in good time, keep the pace calm and show you a selection on screen as
we go, so nobody leaves the studio unsure about the result.
Step 04
The darkroom
Selection, colour grading and retouching are done in house. A preview within 48
hours, then a private gallery you download from in high resolution.

You get a preview with a small selection within 48 hours. The finished gallery

Yes. We shoot at home, at the workplace or on location across Oslo and the
surrounding area, and we are happy to travel further for larger jobs. We bring
lights and backgrounds when the room calls for it.
Copyright stays with the photographer, as Norwegian copyright law provides,
but you get a written and lasting right to use the pictures from your session
— including web, print and social media. We never use pictures of you in our
own portfolio without written consent.
Let us know by email as early as you can and we will find a new date. If the
photographer falls ill, one of the other two on the team steps in, and you get
to see their portfolio in advance.
A portrait session normally gives 15–25 finished pictures, a family session
40–60, and a wedding 400–700. The number is agreed before the session, and we
would rather deliver fewer pictures we stand behind than a folder you never
open.
Yes. We build whole image libraries on one visual rule, the way we have done
for SpinBoss, Kazeeno, SpinWinera, Grizzlys and Slotrave: moodboard and shot
list first, then one or two shooting days, then files sized for web, print and
ad formats. Ongoing brands get a written style guide so later sessions match
the first one.
Yes. We can shoot all or part of a session on film, develop and scan in house,
and hand print black and white on fibre-based paper in our own darkroom. We
also run beginner courses in small groups.
We store only what we need in order to answer the enquiry and carry out the
job, and we do not share the details with anyone beyond the necessary
